"rock me baby, till you make me satisfied"

« on: March 16, 2009, 08:40:29 PM »

And so it begins.  Got my first batch of seeds planted today.  Nine Diesel Ryders (one seed was bad) and 10 Auto Hindu Kush.  All are in 5" pots and under the grow light.  I'm hoping to keep them under it for about 3 weeks, when it should be warm enough to put them outside during the day.  As soon as I can sex them, which should be around 4 weeks, the females will be transplanted into 3 gallon pots and put outside permanently.  Of the males I'm going to keep one, transplant it and move it back indoors to the window.  I'll use it's pollen to knock one of the girls up.  If I get the same male to female ratio as last year I should end up with around 12 females.  Can't wait for the little beauties to pop their little heads.

I am almost as excited about your grow as I am mine! I germinated my seeds and out of the 10 seeds 8 has germinated. I planted the 8 germinated ones and I have 1 plant starting to grow leaves and a couple more popped out of the ground.

Good luck on your grow!

I'm excited about both yours and New_Grows grows as well.  In a way I sort of feel responsible.  I hope we're all successful this year.

Had to raise my grow light up yesterday.  It was too close to the pots and was drying the dirt out too quickly.  I have a spray bottle and some Britta filtered water and I've been spritzing them a couple times a day to keep the soil moist.  Nothing's popped yet but it's only been 2 days.

As of yesterday, which was day 4,  I have 100% germination on the Diesel Ryder seeds.  Seven for 10 on the Hindu Kush.  All are at least an inch tall and have started their first set of leaves.

Another HK popped yesterday so that makes 8 of 10 on the HK and all the DR.  All but the one that popped yesterday have their first set of leaves and are 3-4" tall.  One DR is starting it's second set of leaves.  So far I've only been watering using a spray bottle to soak the top inch of soil.  Today I'll start bottom watering.  The pots are set in plastic trays and I'll start placing enough water in the trays so that the pots soak the water up from the bottom.  I can already see a huge difference in starting them under the MH light as compared to setting on the widow sill as I have done in years past.  They are bigger, stronger and growing much faster.  I'll also be introducing a fan today to start moving them to strengthen the stems.

Sounds like you are off to a great start! I might have to get a light for next year's grow. If I remember right I started my seeds a couple days earlier than you, and my plants are about 2" tall and are still working hard on their first set of leaves. lol.

I see a big difference from past years.  I only paid $100 + $20 shipping off of eBay.  It was supposed to be a 250w but is only a 175.  A 250 would have been better.  But I've got room for 10 plants in 5" pots under it.  Once this batch is ready to go outside I'll start my tomatoes, peppers, egg plant and celery, along with outdoor plants.  Then more low ryders.  I think it's going to work out real well until I can get a green house.

Day 13 and things are looking good.  All plants have their second set of leaves and some are starting on their third.  Started bottom feeding them yesterday with an 8-4-4 liquid fertilizer diluted to 1/2 strength.  Also started running a small fan 4 days ago for air/stem movement.  I think 1 more week under the light and they can start going outside during the day.  Hoping to be able sex them around that time and transplant the females to the larger pots.  I'm reseeding my pasture so have been letting my goats out to roam the whole property.  I just have to figure out where to put them so that the goats won't eat them!

Gave my plants their second bottom feeding of nutrient solution and have had a huge growth spurt.  All now have started their third set of leaves and are ready to go outdoors to make room for the next batch.  Another week in the small pots and I should be able to sex them and then transplant to the bigger pots.

Thanks.  This is my second grow with them, first in pots.  Also first time starting them under a light.  Hoping for at least 12 females out of the 17 I've started.  If you've got a spot, I say go for it.

I agree--if you got a garden for cover and no nosey neighbors.

i would put up no trespassing signs.

Muddy: thats some great luck with the females. that seed bank is really working for you.

i havent  had Hindu Kush--do you expect it to be awesome? The DR I know is premo.

DOPE....Its whats for dinner!
