I've been growing low ryders outdoors in pots this year.  I'm mixing my own soil.  Didn't have the $ to buy the good stuff like Fox Farms so I've been using 2 parts Miracle Grow Organic Garden Soil, 2 parts sphagnum peat moss (lowers the pH), two parts peat humus and 1 part worm castings.  Took me some experimenting but that mix seems to be working pretty good.

Hi Muddy,

I like your soil mix for lowryder, but I have to ask what size pots you use, and with this mix did you need to give them nutes (and what kind etc), or was it just the soil?

Thanks

Hey Dave, welcome to CHQ.

I used 3 gallon pots this year but found they are a little bigger than necessary.  Two gallon will probably work better unless you are growing the Onyx or Mi5 strains.  They get bigger and the 3 gallon pots would probably work best for them.  Yes, I still fed them nutrients.  I used Fox Farms Grow Big for veg and switched to Fox Farms Tiger Bloom for flowering.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Muddy - that is perfect! I'm using original LR right now so the small er pots will be fine. Later on, I'm hoping to cross with Jack Herer and/or Kali Mist, but I figured baby steps while I figure this all out would be a prudent choice. Hate to admit it, but about the only gardening thing I'm qualified to do is mow the lawn, so the wife thinks this new 'hobby' is pretty funny. But it is legal for me, and kinda relaxing in itself, so no worries. If I can come out of the supply loop a bit, all the better - Dave

Not to worry, there are people here who can help with just about anything you might run across.

I grew Low Ryder II last year, outdoors in soil, with pretty good results.  This year I've grown multiple strains and some are much better than the LRII as far as potency.  I've been growing vegetables all my life so I was able to transfer that knowledge to growing weed.  It is a fun hobby and you'll enjoy yourself.

Im experimenting now with :

2 part FF Ocean Forest
1 part FF Light Warrior
1 part WW Worm Castings

I mix while spraying over with Humboldt Honey ES mixture (1 tsp/gal) which supposedly aids in the carbohydrate consumption or something along those lines.
