This is something I'm going to be looking into... probably around tax time though. Time to upgrade to an digital/enclosed ballast . going with a 400w switchable w/ hood,reflector, both bulbs included...etc.

So don't worry Noosiferiwasnot, I'll be in your shoes later, trying to find a good deal.

Digi? Lol sorry I'm on my first grow but I read and saved and read some more befor I started. But I don't think I was all the way ready. I'm looking at 1000 watt hps mh with the reflector and ballisk, around 300 from an eBay store? Does this sound about right? And should I look at anyother opptions?

The ones that come up come up, come with a timer,400w hps bulb,ballast,reflector, and the little 'mounting pulleys'(which i dont recomend using-the pulleys only allow the light to  be lowered but not raised)theyre 179 and with s&h may be 190-195.it looks as though gyo was selling out but these  are the same basic things they had except without the mh bulb and 20dollars more.

sorry noos my bad, digital it's the only type that burns both MH/HPS. 1000 watt how much space you got to work with.?

IMO, thats the old coil ballast the new digital version out performs it in every way.
they are cheaper to run, burn you're bulb brighter for longer. the coil ballast puts out 90.000 lumen's, the digi version puts out 105.000 lumen's. (AT LEAST MY 1 DOES)

the coil gives off a lot of heat the digi dnt,blah blah,lol the list go's on.. i don't recommend this but a friend was burning a 400 watt bulb in a 600 digi ballast
for a month b4 he realised.

I think he needs the whole setup. found this one on e-bay seems like a good deal, come with warranty and a enhanced H.P.S bulb emitting 150,000 Lumen and the High Output 95,000 Lumen M.H bulb.  Unfortunate it's not a buy it now option, and bidding start at 300 just watch it and see. you might be able to grab it for that,  if no one bids but you. just wait to the last day before bidding.
