"rock me baby, till you make me satisfied"

« on: November 24, 2008, 04:00:40 PM »

Rainy day today so I finally got around to loading Firefox 3.  I could never get 2 to run right on this system but 3 seems to be fine.  Only thing I see so far is logging into CHQ.  Since I never log out I expected to see myself logged in, however it showed as guest.  Entered my info and it changes screens but all I see is the CHQ banner, the rest of the page is blank.  If I then try to go to the forums, or anywhere else for that matter, I'm  not logged in.  Has anyone else run across this?

If I can't get it working right I'll have to go back to IE6.  I hate IE, especially IE7.

Never happened to me.  Using FF3 now and havent had a problem yet.  I think it is a connection/loading problem.  That happened to me earlier today on a different webpage.  Only the banner would load no matter what I did.  Opened a new browser/tab.  I even tried it in IE7; same thing.  I think you just need to let it load or whatever.  Thats what worked for me.  Or might be for another reason.

I could switch right back to IE and get right in with no problem, so I don't think it was a connection issue.  It's also cutting off text down the whole left side on some web pages so I think there's something else going on.  Just downloaded a beta version of IE8.  Gonna take a look at that too.

Dont know what to tell you.  Maybe reinstall with every thing off?  Might just be a waste of time or might fix it.

Yes, IE works fine, always has.  Getting an error "smf_charset is not defined".  No one home at Firefox this afternoon, gonna try them again in a few minutes.

Got it resolved tonight.  The save password option was enabled.  When I disabled it I was able to get right in.  Glad, because I really like Firefox.  Only thing I see I don't like is how it handles cookies.  Anyone using a good add-on to handle them?

In case anyone else runs into this problem do the following:

Choose Tools, then Options, then Security.  Make sure the "Remember Passwords for Sites" box is unchecked.

I've heard nothing good about Vista.  I haven't run it but know people who have.  Apparently it's a huge resource hog.  I think the recommended config is a dual processor and 2 gb or ram.  It probably comes with IE7.  I got a beta version of IE8 and loaded it.  Locked up right away so I shit canned it.

Isn't MS working on a new OS to replace Vista?  Seems I heard that somewhere.

MS is working on vista's successor, which is supposed to be released sometime in 2010 or 2011. vista is hard on resources, but I have a few friends that are running the windows classic theme/style, and they say it's not that bad. since the release of the first service pack, it's more stable and has less compatibility problems than when it came out. I'm sticking to XP for a while though

i've used XP since it came out and like it just fine, dont need any changes.  ME sucked compared to XP, and windows 95, 98 and 2000 were just terrible in comparison

of them all, I'm pretty sure ME was the worst, I only heard bad things about it. one of my friends said that it was crashing all the time and was hard to fix up. I've used 95 and 98, and while now outdated to hell, they weren't bad for the time. we had a custom PC with a 133 mhz pentium I that ran 95 for something like 4 years (early '97 to '01) , and the first 3 were pretty much trouble free
